Mojito

My mojito in La Bodeguita, my daiquiri in El Floridita.

• Handful of Mint leaves
• 1 Lime in Wedges
• Sugar to Taste
• 60ml White Rum
• Top Soda Water
• Glass: Highball
• Garnish: Mint Sprig & Lime Wedge.
• Method: Roll Lime & cut in wedges. Remove stem from mint, muddle mint, lime & sugar. Build over chushed ice. Stir

The drink could have originated with the African slaves while working in Cuba's sugar cane fields in the late 1800s

Or perhaps it is simply a descendant of “El Draque”, where the ingredients were kept onboard the ship for medicinal purposes.

Another possibility is that it was invented by the US Marine Corps.

Havana is the home of the Mojito with Havana club being the rum of choice.
